Latest little thing, pencil drawing with photoshop colors. I’m getting really into strange plants.
some quick colors added to this layout drawing… might actually play around with some other variations and times of day later on.
Background layout drawing for practice… I’ll probably end up coloring this one eventually.
So this is the first time I’ve done layout drawings really…
Before coming out to Nickelodeon for the summer, I never thought about how specific the jobs were in animation- I kinda just assumed there was a background person who did all the background stuff, instead of a different artist for layout and painting (not to mention props and color styling and whatnot). I didn’t really think about layout as a separate job from background painting at all! The more you know…
Anyways, since I’ve gotten more and more interested in design, I decided to give background design a shot. Usually my digital painting process is really fluid (I’ll completely change the composition at the end sometimes) so it was interesting to try and draw everything out and make it all make sense instead of fiddling around with it forever.
Might color these, someday.
Another one of the pieces I put in the Nickelodeon intern gallery show! I’ve been trying to break away from the more representative stuff I usually do and think more about designing abstract shapes… only halfway successful but it’s really fun and definitely something I’ll be working on more! The colors were fun for this one too- I’ve been looking at a bunch of Mary Blair art and it’s been really inspiring.
I’ve been trying to play around with a little more stylization in natural forms… the clouds and trees in this one were a lot of fun! Also good color practice.
