sketches, process, finished work, and the occasional life update.

Okay, so this is basically a life news post, but since it’s my art blog I felt like it needed at least a stupid little sketch.
So that’s how I feel right now…
Just got back from Comic con in San Diego (my first time!) and it was… unbelievable. I don’t even think I can put into words the insanity that takes place at this time in San Diego every year, I just walked onto the main floor and my mind was blown. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen this amount of people at once. Insane and exhausting in the best way.
I got a couple artists to look through my portfolio and got some really helpful feedback! Also met a bunch of new people and had some really great nights.
One of the most exciting things work-wise was meeting up with some people from Committed Comics, which is a small publisher that my cousin Sam and his friend Josie and I have teamed up with to produce a graphic novel! Josie writes, Sam is drawing, and I’ll be the colorist. We’re hoping to have a 120 ish page book ready for next year’s comic con, which will be EVEN MORE EXCITING (if that’s even possible).
Among the many non-work related things that was really exciting was meeting Pendleton Ward in a bar, and seeing Guillermo del Toro in a hotel lobby being mobbed by fans.
Annnd in more comics related life news, I just talked to my two amazing classmates Maddy Trower and Myken Bomberger today, and we’re brainstorming ideas for a theme for the comics independent study we’re putting together for next year. We’re going to try to produce about 30-50 pages each on a single theme during the fall semester, and then hopefully submit it to a bunch of publishers and maybe get it printed!
So yes. Many many inspiring things happening. Lots of excitement.
(Disclaimer: I know I don’t usually do such text-heavy posts and try to keep it to just the art, but I am just so psyched right now I don’t know what else to do but blog about it. Is that sad? Maybe.)
